Build A Bento Box {pdf download}

Build a Bento Box is a a tool for your family to download + print off to hang on your fridge or in your pantry! It will teach your child how to build their own healthy, balanced lunchbox by choosing one food item from the provided list from each category: carbs, protein, vegetables, and fruit. Allowing your child to help build their lunchbox gives room for conversation about real foods and the nourishment they provide, while also fostering independence and autonomy with packing their lunch.

Of course, you won't always have each food item in your home. That would be silly! I find that this resource has helped our family choose new food to try each week to help us have a variety of nutrients in our body, and skip the boredom from eating the same foods week after week.

On the back of this poster, you'll also find a table that lists out portion sizes by age groups (1-12 years old) and also what a portion size looks like. For example, a 1/2 cup of protein looks around the same size as a deck of cards!
